- This paper is an output from an EPSRC established career fellowship Safe & SuRe: Towards a New Paradigm for Urban Water Management (EP/K006924/1, PI: Butler), co-sponsored by the Environment Agency, Arup, Severn Trent Water and others. The methodology has been trialled by South West Water in their strategic water supply system and is informing Scottish Water's national water supply resilience strategy (will.carroll@scottishwater.co.uk). This and other work led to the award of a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering to Butler as 'a leading international authority in water engineering renowned for his outstanding contributions to 'new infrastructure design approaches'.
