- The book expands the analytical insights produced in my doctorate, providing a critical exploration of the lived experiences of caregivers to children during maternal imprisonment. The book involved considerable academic investment over the course of 5 years: doctoral research (3 years) and further development of the theoretical and empirical scope of the book (2 years). Recruiting this difficult to access sample created a lengthy period of data collection. The substantial and complex qualitative data produced from in-depth participant interviews required considerable contextualisation and analysis. This involved reviewing two distinct but intertwined elements of participants' lives: domestic circumstances and prison experiences.
