- A new impregnation process was designed for pultrusion using first-principles calculations. The production method was trialled at Pultrex Limited, Colchester, UK (Managing Director: Colin Leek). The site trials demonstrated that the solvent consumption and waste resin could be reduced by up to 80% when compared to the conventional resin bath-based production method. A partnership has been formed between the University and Pultrex to commercialise this technology. Two patents have been filed: (i) a new technique to spread the fibres before impregnation (UK Patent Application No 1609919.4 and US Patent Application 16/307,997 (ii) a resin applicator (European Patent Application No 09801754.4).
