- Double-weighted statement
- The book results from research in several distinct areas: the history of ideas, alternative spirituality and New Age studies, and international relations, and therefore represents the result of interdisciplinary research conducted over about twenty years. This book firstly identifies New Age thought as a modern manifestation of Western millenarianism - a concept built around the expectation of an imminent historical crisis followed by the inauguration of a golden age. Secondly, it relates New Age currents to the much longer tradition of Utopianism and the belief in the possibility of perfect societies.
