- This monograph was produced over a period of over 10 years, supported by a research fellowship of the Lumbini International Research Institute. It is the first comparative study of a set of foundation legends of Buddhist and other religious origins along the Himalaya belt based on a detailed study of primary sources in a broad variety of languages (Sanskrit, Pali, Chinese, Tibetan, Nepali) with some texts translated into English for the first time, amounting to 391 pp. of final text. The study reveals the longue durée connection between the different legends and their modification through the respective socio-geographical settings.
