- This 100,274-word book is the first history of working-class masculinity and sexuality outside of London. It draws on six years of original research in nine archives across the UK. Apart from national newspapers, none of the research material was digitised, requiring extended visits to local and national archives. As the book deals with masculinity and sexuality, sources were not catalogued as such, and required a lengthy and complex research process, involving the examination of over 1000 indictment files and criminal records, and seven local newspapers over a 60-year period.
