- Double-weighted statement
- The product of sustained research conducted over a period of almost twenty years. It involved multiple research trips to international libraries including the British Library, Colindale and the Bibliothèque nationale (current and former). It analyses a substantial volume of little-studied (and relatively inaccessible) material, often held in archival collections, in the form of 10 key French women’s journals published over almost a century. The unique scope of its primary material, which covers four separate subsections of journalistic publishing, is examined through different hermeneutic approaches – including the historical, political, sociological, literary and linguistic – and required extensive interdisciplinary research.
