- The first edition of the surviving letters written by Robert Southey between 1819-21, Part Six draws on three decades of original research on manuscripts in 100+ archives across UK, Europe and North America. It provides newly-transcribed and freshly-edited texts of 546 letters (314 published for the first time, with a further 76 published in full for the first time). It accompanies these with a full scholarly apparatus: headnotes; extensive footnotes covering the entire interdisciplinary range of Southey’s interests; chronology, newly-researched biographies of his correspondents; and 6000-word introduction that places the letters in personal and wider cultural contexts.
