- This book provides the first full account of the developing symbolization of the Virgin in medieval Spain, exceptionally covering Marian literary texts from 1250-1500 in both Catalan and Castilian, as well as sources as wide-ranging as liturgical texts, medical sources and advice manuals transcribed from manuscripts. The book unites study and transcription of manuscripts carried out over a decade. Evidence was compared with theological sources. Additionally, regional architectural and agricultural evidence, such as monastery sculptures were personally visited and photographed. Most of these sources were difficult to access in Cathedral and Diocesan archives or in remote rural locations.
