- Edited volume and chapter. John Koch (JK) wrote Chapter 2 ‘Celtic from the West meets linguistics and genetics’ (pp. 19–37) and co-wrote with B. Cunliffe the Preface (p. ix) and Chapter 7 ‘A dialogue at the crossroads’ (pp. 192–206). He also typeset and designed the book and cover and indexed it. JK co-ordinated closely with Oxbow Books on details of print production and targeting readership. This multi-authored, multidisciplinary book is an output of the AHRC-funded Atlantic Europe in the Metal Ages (AEMA) project, for which JK was PI. All the contributors had collaborated closely together over the life of the project, including this book and its goals, which aim to present cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research with high accessibility for researchers in the three disciplines (archaeology, linguistics, and genetics) as well as the general public. One formal innovation towards this goal was to write discursive ‘Further reading’ sections rather than unannotated bibliographical lists. JK’s work as co-editor included ensuring consistency for a lively and intelligible style across the contributions, all of which nonetheless presented essential new research.
