- This collaborative paper between the Universities of Nottingham and Cambridge was funded through EU FP7 (227887) and presents a model which practicing engineers could adopt to improve the design of raft foundations in earthquake prone areas. The paper is significant as current design codes require practitioners to over-design foundations resulting in significant construction cost, time, complexity and embodied carbon – by adopting the methodology proposed all of these issues are alleviated. This is the first paper to present a model which has been derived and validated from physically modelling data.
