- ‘Craft: An American History’ was published on January 19, 2021. The publisher, Bloomsbury, had originally intended to release the title in October 2020. Though the manuscript was ready, delay was considered to be preferable from a marketing point of view, given the impact of Covid-19 and their assessment of the election environment in the USA. The additional time had the benefit of allowing for the addition of a passage to the conclusion, addressing the response of the craft community to the pandemic.

- This 100,000-word monograph blends primary and secondary research to tell the story of America through the eyes of its artisans. Archival research was in: the Smithsonian Institution / Archives of American Art; Craft Council, St. Paul; and libraries and archives at Yale University and Parsons / New School libraries, among many other sources. The book offers a groundbreaking synthetic study, which combines narratives about art, technology, economic and labor history, and required extensive research across a range of literatures. Also noteworthy is the attention in the text to craft’s significant in articulating gender and ethnic identities.
