- This paper introduces a novel research approach to measuring the lubricant film thickness in rolling element bearings. The paper presents for the first time in literature lubricant film thickness measurements, separately at the inner and outer ring contacts, for a ball bearing lubricated with grease and compare them with theoretical values. The results shown in this paper contributes with an original experimental technique which opens the door to refined measurements of lubricant film thickness in rolling element bearings, with lasting influence upon the approach to their durability and design.
