- The book provides a new understanding of the Northern Irish Troubles by demonstrating how cultural texts can expose the economic imperatives that undergird sectarian division. This is significant because it highlights the long and evolving influence of capitalist ideologies upon the Troubles, recalibrating traditional historiographies of the conflict. Central to these arguments is a sustained, and original, investigation into how cultural texts (film, photography, and poetry) can expose capitalism’s affective energies. The book’s interdisciplinary approach to this theme is extended through an analysis of previously unconsidered archival documents relating to urban planning and the domestic impact of internment.
