- The Tiger in the Smoke is a substantial monograph of over 100,000 words and 189 illustrations. The text and the images are both the result of original and extensive research; many of the images have not been reproduced before in an academic publication. The book is a highly interdisciplinary study, drawing on a range of disciplines including literary and film studies, social and cultural history, as well as art history and design. All of these areas are treated in depth and with specialist attention, adding greatly to the scope and substance of the book.
