- 'Naturalism Against Nature' brings together findings from five years of research. It encompasses all the major Lusophone Naturalist writers (the first study to do so), presenting an in-depth analysis of the movement and a global evaluation of its cultural, historical and theoretical significance. It proposes a substantial reassessment of Naturalism, in particular its ill-fated approach to race, gender and sexuality, while advocating for a more dynamic theorisation of cultural relations between Portugal and Brazil. In addition, the book presents close readings of several more popular works for the first time, as well as re-readings of canonical centrepieces.
