- This 248-page book reflects a sustained research effort focused on the extensive coverage and analysis of major and minor political thinkers in the West across two centuries. It traces the development of ideas about property in the Western world from the early eighteenth century, through the Enlightenment and the experience of the French Revolution, to the critical stance of socialists and anarchists in the nineteenth century. It collects and analyses the ideas of a wide range of thinkers, including Mandeville, Hume, Smith, Voltaire, Rousseau, Kant, Hegel, the Abbe de Sieyes, Burke, Wollstonecraft, Fourier, Marx, Proudhon and Kropotkin.
