- Detailed investigation into the structural response and design of high strength steel tubular elements with internal prestressing cables representing the chord members in prestressed trusses. A comprehensive programme of experiments at material and member level was performed. Finite element models were developed to further examine the structural response of these novel structural arrangements under a combination of design parameters. The proposed finite element methodology is more sophisticated than any other reported attempts to model the response of prestressed cable-in-tube structural systems. Experimental and numerical results were combined to develop resistance expressions for the design of prestressed high strength steel members.
