- Additional information
- Total internal reflection is a serious limit on the light efficiency of LEDs and OLEDs because of the high index of the refractive and this degradation is impossible to remove by using antireflective coating. Here we show for the first time that light that would have been lost through TIR now excites a localised surface plasmon at the metallic pitched surface and hence reemits the light doubling the light emitted. This breakthrough has been patented (US 10,211,419 B2), commercially restricted for publication and is being commercialised by Lomox Ltd with >£10M funding.
