- This monograph (176 pages) presents the findings from a lengthy period of extensive and multi-layered investigation of archives and data collection in Scandinavia and the UK, linking texts, photographs and objects. The first book to address Nordic collecting of Chinese objects, it makes many primary sources in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish available in English for the first time, but also interprets its theme from critical and innovative angles by challenging current notions of how ‘collecting’ and ‘collector’ should be defined, and providing a new, ‘Nordic’, perspective on the 19th-20th-century history of artefact collection.
