- The attributed individual was the PI of a long-term research project entitled ‘Literary interactions under Nerva, Trajan and Hadrian’ which ran from 2011-20 (https://arts.st-andrews.ac.uk/literaryinteractions/). As part of this project, the attributed individual organised multiple workshops and conferences (details on the project website), bringing together researchers from all around the world. They also established a series of online working papers, published on the website. This volume is the second main output of that project and followed the third and fourth conferences. It was co-edited by three people, the attributed individual and two others. The editors commissioned a selection of chapters (some by conference participants, others by scholars new to the project) to reflect the range of material and topics which had been discussed. Not all submitted chapters could be accommodated. The editors offered extensive feedback and comments to every contributor, requesting rewrites of draft submissions; they also built in cross-references and dialogue between chapters. The editors also commissioned an Envoi from a scholar in a different field, to add a further dimension to the volume by way of a concluding reflection. The editors co-wrote the Introduction (35pp.) with equal contributions from each. The attributed individual also wrote one of the chapters (24pp).
