- This paper describes an algorithm for automatically detecting planar surfaces in images and estimating the 3-D surface orientations. The work is cited regularly as making important contributions, see for example Huang et al (CVPR 2018) and Yu et al (CVPR2019). It is one of a portfolio of papers by Calway on plane extraction in images and video, leading to Calway being founder and chair of Lines, Planes and Manhattan Models (LPM), a series of international workshops on the area held at top Robotics conferences (IROS 2017 and ICRA 2019), working with collaborators Kaess (Carnegie-Mellon, kaess@cmu.edu) and Ramalingam (Utah, srikumar@cs.utah.edu).
