- Double-weighted statement
- This massive work of scholarship provides, over two large volumes and 1523 pages, a critical edition of the fabric accounts for one of the most important buildings in the history of English medieval art and architecture. The Latin text of 60 unwieldy manuscript rolls, dating from 1292-1396 and in five different record series at The National Archives, is presented in full, with a facing translation, critical apparatus, and indices. The author's 90-page introduction sets out the history, structure and context of the project, together with important new insights on medieval architecture and royal patronage.

- Additional information
- Ayers conceived the book. He read, commented upon, and edited all documents, transcriptions and translations, supplying the art-historical knowledge, and taking all editorial decisions. The 90 pages of introduction and tables were written by Ayers, except for a section on the rolls themselves (19pp.) and the editorial note (3pp.), which were a close collaboration.
