- Level-of-service (LOS) has been widely used to measure the operational efficiency of existing highway systems categorically, yet it is generic to project unique urban characteristics. This study developed a new LOS assessment model that statistically links traffic speeds with different land-use clusters within the common region, during weekdays. A total of 1,780 sensor datapoints was gathered from a benchmarkable traffic network in Downtown LA, one of the most trafficked metropolitan areas across the world. The work has been underpinned by the international research collaboration between the authors in the UK and US, while leading to continuous dissemination of research findings.
