- Double-weighted statement
- This is a substantial research monograph (eight chapters over 200 pages), drawing on over five years of work and based on a close and detailed analysis of a substantial corpus of primary source material: over 1,000 pages of printed Latin and a small number of important early medieval manuscript illuminations. None of the book's material has previously been published in article or chapter form; the book presents an overview of the entirety of Bede's thought, original in approaching the topic via Bede's own concepts and images rather than modern research questions
