- Gender, Family and Politics is a single-authored, full-length monograph (222 pages) focusing on a family group of women who had not previously received collective scholarly attention. It uses these women’s dynastic identity as a lens through which to more fully understand the political, social, religious, and cultural history of early-modern Britain. It therefore required sustained and detailed research of source material in English, Latin and French located in national, regional, and private family archives across the UK. The focus on women (with fewer archival traces) necessitated a greater degree of archival detective work than would otherwise have been the case.
