- This paper presents an entirely new, novel filtering Butler matrix for applications in multiport amplifiers with financial support from the European Space Agency and Airbus. The basic idea was invented by Lancaster and completed by Tornielli. The device is proven to give a size reduction of more than 30% over previous methods. The novelty lies in the use of coupled resonators which allow filtering as well as power splitting with the theoretical discussion proving its validity and providing an analytical synthesis technique. Patent applications supported by ESA are to the UK (1513395.2), US (2017/0033427) and European (16179919.2) authorities.
