- Proposes and prototypes a compact air motor for direct air-electricity conversion from energy stored in compressed air. Conventionally, conversion from air to electricity needs two devices: an air turbine and generator. This technology combines the two together with a compact structure. Modelling, simulation and laboratory tests show major energy efficiency improvements over conventional devices. The global patent resulting from this work has been commercially licensed to Power X Ltd (PCT GB2014051062). The work was instrumental in securing an EPSRC research grant (EP/K002228/1, £3m total, over £1M to Warwick) to integrate the technology into energy storage systems.
