- This monograph is the result of an extended period of doctoral research and offers a comprehensive analysis of the experiences and representations of facially disfigured servicemen during and after WW1. The approach is interdisciplinary and the sources used are many and varied, from artworks to medical archives and from personal testimonies to pension files, some of which were accessed thanks to special permission granted from military authorities (e.g. Val-de-grâce military medical archives). The geographical scope of this research spans across three countries (France, Germany and Great Britain), giving this research an additional depth of analysis through its comparative perspective.
