- This book is the product of four years of full-time study of a fundamental period of Greek history which had not received a comprehensive treatment since 1934. Through rigorous criticism of sources ranging from the 5th century BC to the 15th century AD, the book rewrites early Classical history, discarding longstanding assumptions and clarifying the development of Greek historiographical tradition.
