- This is a 400-page exploration of Fine Gael, one of the oldest political parties in Ireland. Described as ‘formidable and authoritative’, it is the first comprehensive history of the party. Research draws on state papers, political archives, parliamentary debates, and a variety of regional and national newspapers. It also benefits from access to privately held papers and interviews with key players. The book is essential reading for understanding how the party evolved and arrived at its current place in the political system. All sixteen chapters were co-authored, and Meehan subsequently edited them to ensure that the ‘voice’ was consistent throughout.
