- This book explores the transformation of Iron Age communities in northeast Gaul, from 600 BC to their integration into the Roman world. It represents the result of more than three years of full-time research work, including data from Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands. Some of the main topics addressed are the sociological interpretation of cemeteries, the development of fortified sites, and the role of sanctuaries in the construction of collective identities. By combining an up-to-date overview of different types of social identity with a considerable body of archaeological data, it provides an innovative view on Iron Age societies.
