- Additional information
- This is an output consisting of a series of linked events to commemorate World War I, devised, curated, and directed by Tim Rhys-Evans in 2017-2018. Rhys-Evans conceived the project when he began to think on the fact that many of the young men in Only Boys Aloud (OBA), which he founded, were the same age as their ancestors when they had fought in the war. He planned and directed a tour for OBA to mark the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele at Ypres in November 2017, for which he wrote new music, and commissioned a new piece by Mark-Anthony Turnage. In 2018 the project became intergenerational as the members of OBA led care-home residents in Wales in singing songs from the era of the Great War. This project also encompassed collecting memories of the war era from residents, as well as from the families of the OBA members, and publishing these in a volume shared with all project participants, with support from the Welsh Government.
The submitted pdf file includes photographs documenting the work, programmes, press releases, the publication of World War I memories, and a description of the research process.
