- This comprehensive review introduced a Special Edition of J Adhesion “Disbonding technologies for adhesive bonded joints” (Vol.93, 2017). The principal author was selected as joint guest-editor on the basis of outputs and conference presentations since 2008, and wrote the journal’s Foreword [J Adhesion, 93:10, 735-736, http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/00218464.2017.1306336]. Our critical evaluation examined the technologies, mechanisms, performance and applicability of disbonding systems. It offers guidance on future design concepts and technologies appropriate to different applications of adhesive bonding, and it has stimulated current research projects in the contemporary era of design for materials sustainability in a circular economy.
