- Published in Signal Processing, a high-quality journal, this work is the result of an international collaboration between Essex, EPFL(Switzerland) and EWHA (S. Korea). This theoretical paper was the first to study approximate decoding methods for inter-dependent sources where the difference between the source data is characterized by a unimodal distribution. The scheme is evaluated for transmission of real-life seismic data and the results show significant improvements (up to 93.3%) over state-of-the-art approximate decoding methods. Early findings of this work have resulted in a series of Korean patents (starting no. 10-1623240) and the Korean group are leading pre-commercialisation efforts.
