- This is the product of a complex, three-year ESRC-funded, mixed methods study combining a ‘natural experiment’ design with data linkage, and interviews to examine the impact of law reform on court processes and children. Data were extracted from court documents for comparable random samples of cases before (170) and after (203) the reform. Linkage of the court data for each child (616) with the Department for Education’s administrative records of their involvement with children’s services established a new method to identify and compare longer-term effects of court orders on children. This was further developed using data from children’s case files.
