- As a former editor, Pointon was invited to contribute to the fortieth anniversary edition of the Association of Art Historians’ flagship journal Art History. All submissions were externally refereed. The brief was a piece of research demonstrating the author’s current thinking. Given Pointon’s research interests in the connections between materiality and imagery in a historical context, she used this opportunity to explore how the technologies of textile, paint, dye and photography - all coalescing around the ubiquitous black male attire of fashionable Paris - contributed to an interrelated gendered aesthetic at a particular historical juncture in late 19th century France.
