- This paper presents a new calibration method for massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Mutual coupling calibration is proposed by using the effect of mutual coupling between adjacent antennas. By exploiting this method, calibration can be performed without either extra hardware circuit and users' involvement. The low complexity makes it suitable for practical implementation. In 2016, the work has been followed up by a major research grant on ‘distributed massive MIMO’ led by Prof. Dongming Wang under the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
