- This article proposes the first P System for addressing an optimisation problem. The optimisation knapsack problem is approximately solved by a computational model instead of an optimisation algorithm. The paper has inspired several theoretical and applied studies. Both optimisation and neural systems community showed an interest for this study. The research line in this paper has been continued in an application journal article about robotics (2015) and to the definition of a new class of computational models (2017)
