- Reflected by 219 citations according to Scopus as of December 2020, the paper constitutes an important reference in the field of direct current converter/transformer for high voltage direct current transmission systems, which is a corner stone technology for future bulk energy transmission and collection from renewable energy sources. The paper is published in one of the three top journals in the power electronics field (5-year impact factor 7.382). The new converter modulation scheme proposed in the paper has been further investigated and/or applied by others (e.g. https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=7452662 and https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?arnumber=8889491 and https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?arnumber=8889491 and https://strathprints.strath.ac.uk/63550/1/Diab_etal_APEC_2018_Quasi_two_level_PWM_operationof_a_nine_arm_modular_multilevel.pdf and https://strathprints.strath.ac.uk/56271/1/Li_etal_IEEE_TOPD_2016_Enhanced_flat_topped_modulation_for_MMC_control_in_HVDC.pdf).
