- This 468-page book (c.900 figures/plates) presents data and interpretation of UNESCO-Sudan Antiquities Service fieldwork in northern Sudan 1963-1969, one of the largest international archaeological undertakings of the mid-20th century. The first of several period-based volumes makes available a fundamental record of now largely destroyed archaeology over 130km of the Nile valley. Edwards authored all data as well as discursive/analytical elements, sharing authorship with original field director (A.J. Mills), as well as two specialist contributors (less 5%). The production of large data sections had very significant implications for research time.
