- This paper assessed the non-contact full-field technique, Digital Image Correlation (DIC), to measure the deformation of a large structure under load. This work led to funding by RCUK including an Innovate UK project "SmartSail" (103816) worth £331,351 looking at the deformation of sails using DIC. In addition, the experience of non-contact optical methods at University of Southampton at a variety of scales from micrometers to the current scale of meters has attracted funding from EPSRC of £1.25m (EP/R008787/1) for the equipment project "Structures 2025" which will take advantage of the use of DIC and other techniques at large scales
