- This 65,000-word book draws on longitudinal data involving over 500+ hours of qualitative interviews collected over three years with 90 students from working-class and middle-class backgrounds attending the two universities in Bristol. This is augmented by a survey (n=2124) plus statistical data on the student, staff, and research profiles of the two universities and a history of the institutions within the context of UK HE development. The book provides significant insights into the uneven playing field of higher education beyond issues of access. Abrahams conducted 40% of interviews, directed the analysis of complex data, and wrote the methods chapter solely.
