- This study reconsiders debates on civil war, development and economic globalisation. Focusing on a case study of Colombia, this is the first book to integrate two emerging research techniques to study civil war: combining disaggregated/micro-level analysis with process tracing methods. A range of sources were employed (in English and Spanish), including a unique dataset on political violence created by the author. Other sources include declassified US diplomatic cables, economic data (e.g., from the World Bank, UN Conference on Trade and Development, Colombia’s Central Bank and National Department of Statistics, etc.), and numerous reports from Non-Governmental Organisations and human rights groups.
