- This paper presents a new paradigm for releasing resources in unlicensed TV white space (TVWS), by using cognitive radio techniques to supplement the existing licensed RF spectrum. The significant bandwidth and throughput gains for unlicensed secondary users operating in TVWS, while upholding the rigid UK and USA spectrum governance regime and eliminating the hidden node problem, has inspired a number of TVWS researchers including Mao et al. (2017) to investigate new spectrum sharing models. It has led to various publications, including an invited chapter in the prestigious Handbook of Cognitive Radio (Springer, 2019).
