- Incidental Archaeologists: French Officers and the Rediscovery of Roman North Africa represents the culmination of an extended programme of research funded by an NEH Summer Stipend and by visiting fellowships in the USA and France. The book is 384 pages in length, and was sole-authored by Bonnie Effros. It draws on a large body of unpublished primary sources drawn from archives and libraries in Paris, Aix-en-Provence and elsewhere. Primary sources include campaign journals of the arme d'Afrique in Algeria, personal correspondence and diaries, excavation journals, and governmental correspondence between the Ministry of War and the Governor-General of Algeria.
