- This work was conducted in full scale water treatment plants in an industry collaboration with the Cearese Water and Wastewater Company (CAGECE) in Fortaleza (Brazil - Neuma Maria Silva Buarque (neuma.buarque@cagece.com.br). It established the fate of the often highly toxic algae during treatment which is of global interest to avoid contamination of drinking water. This work was an international collaboration with the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil) funded by EPSRC GCRF project (EP/P029280/1). This research has directly led to securing two overseas PhD studentships funded by Scottish Government Hydro Nation Scholars Programme.
