- Understanding and controlling confined vortex rings is important for engineering and medical applications. This paper is significant because it proposes the most advanced analytical model for vortex rings, accounting for the effects of viscosity and confinement. The research, demonstrated excellent approximation of the spatial distribution of the stream function and the energy of the vortex rings. This is a key outcome of two EPSRC projects (EP/K005758/1, EP/M002608/1) and underpinned a successful EPSRC proposal in collaboration with Ricardo plc (EP/M002608/1).
