- An in-depth and markedly interdisciplinary monograph on the conception of poetic forms in Italy during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and its relationship with the public’s perception of them.The book provides a detailed reconstruction of both these facets over a wide chronological arc. It combines study and comparison of the Occitanic and Oitanic traditions with the exploitation of research in cognitive psychology and the available knowledge about medieval music and dance. Exploring the influence of musical context on poets’ attitudes in differing socio-economic environments, the study reveals the differing perceptions of poems according to whether they are sung or not.
