- Double-weighted statement
- This book is the product of a decade of sustained research encompassing a large body of material. This is due to its global reach in treating women writers from seven countries including Canada, Australia, Jamaica, India, New Zealand and South Africa. The research involved difficult to access primary materials in archives in the UK but also from the Caribbean and Canada. Literary texts are placed in dialogue with political and historical contexts and, while each chapter focuses on a single writer, the project takes account of their oeuvres as well the literary and political networks in which they moved.
